We love working with all levels of runners, whether you run for fun, regularly race, or train at an elite level! At WOPT, we are highly skilled at diagnosing and rehabilitating running injuries and pain, as well as optimizing performance and preventing injury in healthy runners.
Running is a full body sport and your entire system has to be ready to train. Our running specialist performs a full body runner specific evaluation, examining your joint's range of motion and mobility, muscular flexibility and strength, overall core/hip/shoulder stability, balance, shoes, functional movement, and running style and technique. A detailed runner’s training and medical history is also taken.
Additionally, patients can request a treadmill based "Biomechanical Running Analysis" where we record the patient running from 4 view points. We then analyze joint angles, form, and technique. After the analysis is complete the runner receives a comprehensive "Running Report" based on the findings of their analysis. FYI- the Biomechanical Running Analysis is an optional service! We can still do a full runner evaluation without it.
Based on ALL of this information described above, we craft a physical therapy plan and program that is specifically tailored to your running strengths and weaknesses.
RUN, don't walk, to work with WOPT to rehab your running today.
Biomechanical Running Analysis is an incredible tool for identifying asymmetries and weaknesses in running technique.
We begin the analysis with a full body “Runner’s Readiness Assessment”, examining mobility, flexibility, stability and strength. Our runner is then recorded running at multiple speeds, from four different angles. After the session we utilize movement analysis software to visualize, assess and critique running form. Runner’s then receive a detailed "Running Report", that includes all of the analysis findings, as well as recommendations for training!
*This may be done as an add on to current PT program or performed as a stand alone service.
After very long training runs and races, the body will exhibit an inflammatory response to begin to repair itself. While this inflammation is a normal reaction to intense exercise, the micro damage to muscles and influx of swelling (waste in the form of water + proteins + cell fragments + exercise byproducts) in the body can overload the lymphatic system. Our goal is not to rid the body of its entire necessary inflammatory process. Our goal is to reduce tissue swelling, decrease soreness, and enhance waste clearance so that the inflammatory process can work quicker and cells can recover and heal faster!
So what is MLD? MLD is a gentle type of massage that stimulates the body’s lymphatic system via specialized directional strokes and hand techniques at very specific points of the body. MLD promotes quicker body detoxification and patients may see an immediate reduction in inflammation and swelling, enhanced healing, and reduced pain and soreness post activity.
When can MLD for runners be performed? MLD is a great treatment to have done the day after a long run or race! I recommend 1x/week for 2-3 weeks post race to enhance recovery. If the runner is not in a training cycle, MLD for runners may be done as needed, usually once a month.
MLD- FOR RUNNERS, $160.00: This 50 minute treatment focuses on boosting lymphatic drainage of the full body but spends extra time stimulating the legs. This is an excellent treatment after long runs or half and full marathons!
